Genova Diagnostics Introduction to Functional Testing
This lecture will cover three key aspects of functional testing – Gastrointestinal testing, Nutrient Status testing and Adrenal function / HPA axis assessment.
The GI Effects Comprehensive Stool Profile is an innovative stool test, providing valuable insight into digestive performance, gut inflammation and the gut microbiome— areas affecting not only GI health, but overall health as well. This tests includes a very comprehensive assessment of the microbiome including PCR analysis for 24 commensal bacteria and six parasites.
THE ONE test (Optimal Nutritional Evaluation) includes both organic acids and amino acids to give an in depth assessment of the patient’s functional need for B vitamins, protein, antioxidants and some minerals. This test gives an insight into the patients energy production in the mitochondria as well as overview of bacterial and yeast dysbiosis and other markers around digestive function and oxidative stress.
There will be a brief overview of the Adrenal Stress Profile which is used to detect imbalances in the daily circadian secretions of the stress hormones cortisol and DHEA.
Imbalances in these hormones can indicate an inappropriate response that can negatively impact energy levels, emotions, and many other health complaints. These include anxiety, chronic inflammatory conditions, allergies, chronic fatigue syndrome, insomnia, depression, migraines, headaches, recurrent infections, menstrual difficulties and infertility.
