Facial Acupuncture

London

Facial acupuncture has been widely used in China for many years to prevent the onset of wrinkles and facial lines by keeping the skin topped up with energy-boosting nutrients.

The tiny painless needling of acupuncture causes positive micro-traumas in the skin, triggering the skin’s repair mode. The results are increased production of collagen, lymphatic and circulatory stimulation deliver nutrients and oxygen to skill cells.

The processes results in improved elasticity of the skin, minimising fine lines and wrinkles. For Acupuncturists, facial acupuncture can open a new market for business in cosmetic acupuncture. 8 CPD.

Optimising Brain Health - Action Against Alzheimer's

London

by Clare Daley

Alzheimer’s disease is now the leading cause of death in the UK. Whilst Alzheimer’s and dementia may be diagnosed in our 70’s or 80’s, the processes that eventually result in dementia occur much earlier – in our 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s.

Drug therapy has so far failed to make any real, lasting difference. On the other hand, work in the United States is showing promising results – Professor Bredesen who has spent his life in Alzheimer’s research has developed The Bredesen ProtocolTM with which he has, so far, reversed symptoms of Alzheimer’s in more than 90% of his patients.

Cytoplan’s talk will outline the pathology and genetics of Alzheimer’s disease as well as Professor Bredesen’s diet and lifestyle therapeutic approach along with supplements to support his protocol.

Fatigue and mitochondrial function

London

Mitochondria account for 10% of our body weight and, when healthy, provide us with 90% of our body's energy. However, when mitochondria are unhealthy, the consequences on the rest of the body can be serious, contributing to many chronic and degenerative conditions including cancer and Alzheimer's Disease.

This insightful seminar will look specifically at to help practitioners identify the mitochondrial dysfunction underlying fatigue, and guidance on optimising mitochondrial function through diet and nutritional supplementation.

Gut-Brain-Microbiota Axis by Genova Diagnostics

Edinburgh, Manchester, Dublin

by Kate Osbourne

The gut-brain axis (GBA) consists of bidirectional communication between the central and the enteric nervous system, linking emotional and cognitive centers of the brain with peripheral intestinal functions.

The importance of the gut–brain axis in regulating stress-related responses has long been appreciated. More recently, the microbiota has emerged as a key player in the control of this axis, especially during conditions of stress.

This seminar will discuss the cross-talk of the gut and the brain with the immune system via the vagus nerve. We will discuss the Adrenal Stress Profile to detect imbalances in the daily circadian secretions of the stress hormones cortisol and DHEA. Imbalances in these hormones can indicate an inappropriate response that can negatively impact energy levels, emotions, and many other health complaints. These include anxiety, chronic inflammatory conditions, allergies, chronic fatigue syndrome, insomnia, depression, migraines, headaches, recurrent infections, menstrual difficulties and infertility.

HPA axis - how to increase nutritional efficiency

London, Manchester

By Dr. Michael Kiriac, PhD and Roland Thomas, NMD

Dr. Michael Kiriac, PhD is an Algae scientist and researcher. His research shows how cancers, chronic hormonal imbalances, blood sugar imbalance, cardiovascular problems, osteoporosis, weight gain, nutritional deficiencies, poor digestive function, fatigue and the many inflammatory related conditions like arthritis and chronic pain are all connected to the HPA axis and effiency of nutrient absorption.

In his 22 years of research, Dr Kiriac has discovered that multiple forms, delivery methods and dosages of Algae types and blends have  radically significant impacts on nutrient absorption and nutrient efficiency within the body.

In this this lecture, Dr Kiriac will explain how to use algae types, dosages, forms and methods to dramatically increase nutrient levels in your client within an overall protocol. 2 CPD.

Michael Kiriac, PhD, ND

For 22 years, on behalf of the Academy of Science of the former Soviet Union, and as director of the nutritional sciences department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Kiriac lead the effort to develop nutritional solutions to alleviate diseases and increase productivity in the livestock industry of the former USSR. ME: how to reverse gut mediated inflammation

Metabolic endotoxemia is characterised by increased serum endotoxin (typically lipopolysaccharide LPS) concentration during the first five hours of the post-prandial period following consumption of a meal. We now understand that circulating LPS can trigger a potent inflammatory cascade via the innate immune system and TLR4 activation. Innate immune activation and subsequent inflammation can occur anywhere in the body – even at sites very distal to the intestines, such as the blood brain barrier. Understanding how ME is triggered, offset and reduced can have a dramatically powerful effect wherever inflammation and micro inflammation is suspected.

Agenda for the day:

10.00 - 11.00 Kiran Krishnan for on Metabolic Endotoxemia

Break.

12.00 Dr Tom Bayne on post prandial inflammation, diets, fats and probiotic strains

1.00  Lunch.

Repairing a leaky gut induced by mould and mycotoxin illness

by Anne Pemberton

Mould induced illness is almost always missed. There is a lot of information and misinformation on the world-wide web so I will be discussing a number of cases of mould / Mycotoxin illness.

I will take attendees through the process of identifying mould illness, testing appropriately, the genetic predisposition and creating a management plan based on many years of personal experience.

I will also give due consideration to the marriage of Mould and histamine in todays world via nutrigenomics.

I dont believe there is such a thing as a protocol, we are all individual and this was never more prevalent than in mould cases. I will bring together the evidence base and the clinical experience so that

Attendees can design their own management plans from a basic standpoint.

Anne Pemberton Speaker Biography

Anne is a registered nurse with an MSc in Nutritional Therapy. Anne retrained in NT, following a 30-year history of intensive care nursing and nurse training. She has two adult sons on the spectrum of Autism who have recovered enough to lead a normal life.

Anne is still actively practising NT both in her busy private clinic and also alongside Dr Damien Downing and Dr Patricia Kane in the New Medicine Group clinical practice. Anne is a published co- author (with Dr Downing) who currently writes articles for CAM. Her current project is to complete a practitioner book on nutrigenomics for Jessica Kingsley, following the successful launch of Genesnippers, a training academy that teaches and assesses competency in nutrigenomics within an integrative framework.

How to interpret blood test panels

London, Birmingham, Manchester, Brighton, Bristol, Dublin, Edinburgh

By Jonathan Cohen

When testing for blood data, many practitioners are interested in understanding what is a normal range and what is an optimal range? Whilst normal and optimal is good information, more significant and powerful is the pattern of the results. The pattern of results from a comprehensive blood test will paint a clear picture of what is happening to your client, and narrow down the area from which the problem is arising. Focusing your protocol on the source of symptoms, rather than the ranges themselves allows practitioners to make powerful health improvements to their client's health.

About Jonathan

Jonathan is the clinic director of the Centre for Applied Nutrition which specialises in complex and hard to treat cases across a broad spectrum of health issues including Lyme disease, Lyme co-infections, neurological issues, GI tract issues amongst others.
