Regulating the Nervous System from the Inside Out: Practical Tools for Stress Management, Nervous System Regulation, & Resilience
Stress often feels uncontrollable because it is driven by the autonomic nervous system – a system designed to operate automatically, outside of conscious control. While this is true, it is not the full story.
In this two-part keynote, Shane Pearson offers a practical, experiential approach to
influencing the autonomic nervous system, equipping attendees with simple, evidence
informed tools they can use both personally and professionally – for their own regulation
and in their work with clients – to regulate stress, restore balance, and build resilience.
Session 1 – Reset (Morning Session)
The first session focuses on helping the nervous system down-regulate from stress and threat into a state of safety and calm. Shane introduces the autonomic nervous system and explains how the breath acts as a direct bridge between conscious awareness and autonomic regulation. Attendees are guided through simple, non-invasive breathing practices designed to support nervous system safety, reduce sympathetic arousal, and promote physiological balance – setting them up for a more regulated, restorative state leading into the lunch break.
Session 2 – Energise (Post-Lunch Session)
The second session builds on this foundation by addressing why regulation tools alone are
not enough without moment-to-moment awareness of nervous system state. Shane introduces a simple self-check-in framework to help attendees recognise their current state and avoid remaining on autopilot. The session then focuses on cultivating presence and appropriately re-engaging the nervous system for alertness, focus, and performance. Attendees are guided through practical techniques to overcome the afternoon slump and leave energised, clear, and resourceful.
