Speaker Bio:
Emer Walsh, BAgrSc (Hons) University College Dublin, DipNT, Biomed. College of Naturopathic Medicine, Galway.
An awareness of the increase in prevalence in chronic, complex diseases leads Emer to encompass Functional Medicine in her role as a Nutritional Therapist taking a personalised approach with clients from a biomedical and genetic perspective as well as any lifestyle issues that may be perpetuating various conditions.
Emer’s style of Nutrition Consulting encourages clients to be an active participant in the development of their therapeutic plan thereby making it more likely to make and sustain healthy lifestyle changes, aiming to support short term health goals but also reducing the risk for chronic disease in the future.
As proud farmer’s daughter, Emer is also very active on the ground with The Organic Trust which is Irelands premier Organic certification body. In short, this involves supporting Organic farmers and growers through upholding strict standards in regards to the production of Nutritious food.
Emer’s unique background leads her to have a special interest in the importance of supplementation. Depleted soils, industrialised farming and the move away from whole foods to certain processed packaged foods combined with the every-day stresses of modern living can impact our microbiome as well as making it difficult to get all the nutrients needed solely from diet alone..
Emerging scientific evidence is helping us to understand that the microbiome influences every aspect of our health and its disruption is associated with an increasing number of chronic metabolic conditions.
The insight into above led Emer into her role as Practitioner Educator with Activated Probiotics who’s clinically researched products target specific aspects of health and wellbeing including mood, bone health, women’s health, iron absorption and immunity.
